Mooneyes is an American hot rod, racing, and custom car parts brand founded by Dean Moon in 1950 in Santa Fe Springs, California. Originally established as MOON Equipment Co., the company grew out of Southern California’s postwar hot rod and racing scene. Mooneyes is still based at its original Santa Fe Springs location today, making the city an important part of the brand’s identity and history.
Dean Moon became known for developing and selling performance equipment for hot rods, drag racing, and land-speed racing. Over the decades, MOON Equipment produced a range of distinctive performance parts, including Moon fuel tanks, Moon discs, valve covers, gauges, steering wheels, pedals, manifolds, air filters, and oil pans. Many of these products became closely associated with the look and engineering of traditional American hot rods.
Mooneyes is equally recognizable for its famous “eyes” logo and its connection to Southern California car culture. Its yellow-and-black branding, pinstriping, chrome, vintage drag-racing imagery, decals, apparel, and accessories helped transform Mooneyes from a speed-equipment manufacturer into a broader automotive lifestyle brand.
Today, Mooneyes has an international following, particularly in Japan, while maintaining its roots in Santa Fe Springs, California. The original Southern California shop continues to operate as MOONEYES USA, preserving the hot rod and custom-car legacy started by Dean Moon more than 75 years ago.
